TikTok Ads has no official Looker Studio connector. As with Meta, you’ll need a third-party service or the API. But beyond the connection mechanics, TikTok has characteristics that change how reporting should be built: creative matters more than targeting, the platform has its own video metrics, and attribution diverges from real sales even more than on other platforms.

This guide covers the connection methods, the metrics worth pulling, and the interpretation traps specific to TikTok.

Connection methods

Third-party connectors

Windsor.ai, Supermetrics, Porter Metrics, Dataslayer and similar all offer a TikTok Ads connector authenticating through the TikTok Marketing API, with automatic refresh into Looker Studio. Expect roughly $20-40/month at entry level.

The thing to verify specifically for TikTok: whether the connector exposes video metrics (2-second and 6-second views, completion rate) and creative-level dimensions. Not every connector goes down to that level — and on TikTok, that’s the level where decisions get made.

Manual export

TikTok Ads Manager exports reports as CSV for Google Sheets. Free, but with a TikTok-specific weakness on top of the usual manual-export fragility: creative report structures change fairly often, which breaks Sheets-based dashboards more frequently than on other platforms.

TikTok Marketing API into BigQuery

The robust route: a pipeline feeds BigQuery, Looker Studio connects there, and TikTok data joins in SQL with your Shopify orders and GA4 export — the multi-source architecture covered in our Looker Studio dashboard guide.

The metrics that matter on TikTok

The fundamentals: spend, impressions, clicks, conversions, conversion value, ROAS, CPA. Read them the same way as anywhere else — always against your breakeven ROAS (1 ÷ gross margin), never in isolation.

The video metrics, specific to TikTok:

  • Hook rate (3-second views ÷ impressions) — the first seconds decide everything on TikTok, more than anywhere else. A weak hook rate condemns a creative regardless of what follows.
  • Completion rate — the share of viewers who watch to the end. On short formats, it tends to correlate with conversion performance.
  • 6-second views — a useful middle threshold for separating an effective hook from content that genuinely holds attention.

Creative-level breakdown: on TikTok, performance depends more on the creative than on audience settings. Useful reporting lets you compare videos against each other — that’s where the optimization decisions actually happen.

The TikTok attribution trap

TikTok counts conversions within its own attribution windows, including view-through conversions. That alone creates a gap with GA4, which only credits trackable clicks.

But TikTok adds a behavioral layer on top: the typical journey is to discover a product in the feed, then buy it later — often by searching the brand name directly. Those sales land in GA4 as “Direct” or “Organic,” while TikTok claims them. The gap between TikTok-reported ROAS and what GA4 attributes to TikTok is therefore often wider than for other platforms. We explain the general mechanism in our attribution guide.

The practical consequence cuts both ways. Judged on GA4 alone, TikTok will look like it does nothing. Judged on its own numbers, it may look better than it is. Use TikTok’s figures to compare your TikTok creatives against each other, and real Shopify revenue — ideally with an incrementality test, pausing spend in one region and watching sales — to judge whether the overall TikTok investment pays off.

Structuring the TikTok page

Header: spend, impressions, conversions, ROAS and CPA for the period, compared to the previous one.

Creative performance: the core of the page. A table per video crossing spend, hook rate, completion rate, CTR and ROAS — this is what lets you cut creatives that don’t carry and duplicate the ones that work.

Performance over time: TikTok creatives wear out quickly. A chart of ROAS per creative over the last 30 days shows how fast fatigue sets in, usually faster than on Meta.

Cross-reference with Shopify: TikTok spend next to real revenue, with each source labeled — see our guide on connecting Shopify to Looker Studio for getting store data in.

FAQ

Is there an official TikTok Ads connector for Looker Studio? No. TikTok doesn’t offer a native Looker Studio connector. You need a third-party connector (Windsor.ai, Supermetrics, Porter Metrics and similar), a manual export, or the TikTok Marketing API into BigQuery.

Why is TikTok’s ROAS so different from my Shopify sales? TikTok counts conversions within its own attribution windows, including view-through. On top of that, a typical TikTok journey is discovery in the feed followed by a purchase days later through a direct or branded search — those sales show up as Direct or Organic in GA4 while TikTok claims them.

Which TikTok metrics should an e-commerce brand prioritize? ROAS and CPA first, then the creative metrics specific to video: hook rate (3-second views ÷ impressions) and completion rate. On TikTok, performance depends more on creative than on targeting, so these indicators drive most optimization decisions.
